An impressive 19th-century French porcelain covered urn featuring a vibrant Bleu Céleste (heavenly blue) ground, rich gilt decoration and hand-painted reserves. The piece combines finely decorated porcelain with elaborate gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, creating a striking display piece for a mantelpiece or cabinet.

Key Features

  • Hand-painted artwork: The main lid panel features a romantic scène galante with a courting couple in a pastoral landscape. The reverse depicts an architectural landscape, while the interior features a delicately painted floral bouquet.

  • Elaborate ormolu mounts: Gilt-bronze fittings include detailed handles, a pierced gallery rim, a pinecone finial and a substantial stepped square base.

  • Historic markings: The underside of the lid bears several 19th-century marks, including a red Château des Tuileries stamp, a green Louis Philippe monogram dated SV 46, and blue interlaced Ls.

  • Vibrant colourway: The rich sky-blue porcelain contrasts beautifully with the extensive gilt decoration and aged bronze patina.
